The Science Behind PureSperm™

15 Jan 2026 | News, Tips & Tricks

PureSperm™ owes its performance to a precisely engineered colloidal silica system. The silica particles are synthetically produced and undergo silanization, a chemical process that stabilizes their surface and prevents aggregation. This creates a uniform, stable dispersion that is essential for consistent, high-quality results.

The colloidal solution is further refined with sodium, potassium, and calcium salts, carefully balanced to mimic the physiological environment of human spermatozoa. Osmolality and pH are adjusted to fall between those of liquefied semen and fertilization media, providing an extracellular environment that supports optimal sperm separation and purification.

PureSperm™ is the practical expression of this advanced chemistry: a sterile colloidal silica suspension in an isotonic salt solution, specifically optimized for density gradient preparation in Assisted Reproduction Technologies (ART). It efficiently isolates normal, motile sperm from lymphocytes, epithelial cells, abnormal, immature, or senescent sperm, cell debris, bacteria, and seminal plasma.

By combining advanced colloidal chemistry with physiological precision, PureSperm™ provides a reliable medium that enhances the efficiency and reproducibility of sperm preparation. Its performance advantages include:

· Increases sperm survival time.
· Removes sources of ROS.
· Removes bacteria.
· Removes sperm with abnormal DNA.
· Improves cryo-survival.
· Improves yield and recovery compared to swim-up techniques.

PureSperm™ provides laboratories with a robust, clinically proven solution that elevates the quality of sperm preparation — and ultimately supports improved outcomes in ART procedures.
